What are film trailers for?

Trailers are an advertising technique that shows some of the best and most important scenes in an upcoming film. They give an insight into the plot, genre and any stars that are being cast. They are used to get the public excited about and interested in the film to increase the viewers of the upcoming film. The more attention grabbing trailers, with good music and titles, would gain the most interest from the public. A trailer does not need to be a summary of the film, but instead needs to stimulate the public’s interest in the film, so that a general assumption can be made about the film before it is released.
